“Venom?” A brow lofted, and her arms crossed over her front as her chest rose in indignation. “I do not have venom in my voice.” She scoffed. How little humans knew of their kind. What venom her kind did carry lay elsewhere, behind razor sharp teeth meant to tear through flesh like warm butter.

“Well, these are mermaid-occupied waters. Atlantica lies just below your ship. Didn’t you know?” She asked, refraining from adding she happened to be Triton’s daughter. With any human, it was a risk to run into humans, and even more so to disclose one’s royal lineage.

Eyes swept over to take in the number of men on the ship. And while her initial reaction to their unexpected appearance in her father’s domain was a show of displeasure, her expression softened with a tint of concern. Her father wasn’t particularly forgiving towards humans who wandered through his kingdom.

“I hope I don’t have to mention that King Triton doesn’t take too kindly to fish eaters.” She added. “He’s particularly fond of setting his prized kraken on any ship that passes through his kingdom.” Kraken were rare sea monsters, and of the few that existed, her father’s was the most fearsome of all, a gift from his younger sister he’d raised himself. “You’ll want to go quickly before he realizes your here. Your ship is a formidable size, but for a beast as large as the king’s beloved pet, you’re only a morsel.”

A LAUGH escaped him at her words, ( small ) but AMUSED nonetheless. The way she crossed her arms over her chest spoke VOLUMES about how she felt towards him and his crew, and Will could only respond by FOLDING his own arms, no real DISTASTE on his features. He very RARELY encountered mermaids, and she was the FIRST he’d come across in some time. To be met with such OPEN contempt was something he wasn’t quite USED to. Still, REACTING                 ( negatively ) likely wouldn’t be in his favor. Not when he’d wandered into UNCHARTED territory, an ACCOMPLISHMENT in and of itself. His head tilted to the right at her words, gaze DARTING to the water before him for a BRIEF moment.

I hadn’t known that, no. I think it’s SAFE to say that I’m a tad bit lost, actually.

The ADMISSION is met with ( snickers ) from his crew, something he STIFLES with a SHARP look. How they managed to come across this part of the sea escapes him, but he’s sure there’s a SIMPLE explanation. And at the very LEAST, he can now ( add ) to the corners of the map that have YET to be filled. Still, he EYED the mermaid before him with a hint of TREPIDATION. He’d heard tell of what mermaids were CAPABLE of, beautiful creatures but DEADLY all the same. As it was, he was beginning to WONDER if her distaste would MANIFEST itself, trying to think about how FAST he and his men could get AWAY. But he wanted to give her the BENEFIT of the doubt. Hopefully she would see that they WEREN’T her enemies. It seemed he wouldn’t be given a CHANCE, for as soon as she mentioned the BEAST that was said to exist only in the most FEARSOME of places, Will took a small step BACK from the ship’s edge. As though THAT would be enough to SAVE him should the KRAKEN truly attack

“ He would set such a beast on sailors so hastily? With no real proof that they were to be feared?
