Legolas  spotted  a man young in appearance,  speaking words that could’ve
been born in the mind of an
ancient one,  in the mindset of someone who has
             seen the
worst due to a lot of experience. And it made him think, yet before
             his  curiosity  regarding  the  stranger’s
name crawled to his consciousness.

“Would it not depend on whom you promise ‘forever’,
or who promises it to you?     Final it is always,  but
cold   &   hard not.   Not  necessarily so,   I  suppose.”

He could  only  assume,  guess,  imagine,  for this was something he rarely
            even
dared to muse about.  Brows furrowed in a questioning expression,
the  elvenprince  scanned the man in a moment of
silence, before he decided
to postpone asking for his name
again. Something else interested him more
            right now.

“What has made you think so & say it out loud?
It must be bothering you much.”

Immortality glimmered with the promise of a fruitful life, forever
stretching on like an endless map to explore, particularly to those who had
never experienced it before. It was no wonder that such a thing was sought
after, that the promise of immortality hid under names such as The Fountain
of Youth, the Elixir of Life. Will had once regarded the quests to find these
items close to magical, adventures ready to be had. Now that he’d had a
brief taste of what forever truly meant, he hoped that those who searched
never learned of the true weight the concept held.

Man was never  meant to live forever. Will had learned this too late,
learned it after he’d watched his friends and family wither away while he
remained as young as the day he’d died. It was a cruel twist of fate to be
forced to live on while loved ones perished around him. If his heart
hadn’t already been locked away, Will might have been tempted to tear
it out himself. As the response came from the man beside him, Will felt
a pang in his chest, the assumption of having someone to share forever
with pulling at memories he was constantly trying to bury. Memories of
clashing swords, a marriage in the rain, laughter tinged with sunshine,
and a goodbye that came much too soon.

“ Forever does not always come with a companion. It is
the solitude that makes forever stretch into a neverending
night. Not many consider that aspect.”

He responded hollowly, gaze fixed on the horizon. There were
moments when he was glad for that simple fact, other moments still
where the more selfish side of him wanted to resurrect a loved one and
damn them to eternity alongside him. Clearing his throat, Will turned his
eyes away from the sight before him, forcing himself to properly
acknowledge the other.

“ I’m afraid being left alone with my thoughts for too long
often leads to such statements. Have you never pondered
           the drawback of immortality? ”
