‟ Just don’t MENTION the rum.

The words were spoken under his breath, more of a CLIPPED command than a polite request as dark eyes continued to SCAN their surroundings for a suitable means of getting out of here ( preferably before Elizabeth found them, as his companion had so unhelpfully PREDICTED ). He shouldn’t have DRAGGED Will into this, Jack knew ( especially now that he was BETROTHED to the daughter of Port Royal’s GOVERNOR, no less ), but, considering how quickly he attracted TROUBLE, it had only really been a matter of TIME before an innocent trip to the FORGE had involved the blacksmith in this LATEST scheme.

‟ Tell her anything else you’d like, William – she can even have me hung,
drawn and quartered for bloody ROBBING her of her fiance if she likes
               – but watching Elizabeth throw all of this good quality DRINK into the
sea is one sight I cannot abide. Savvy?

image

She’ll never have you QUARTERED for this. Me, on the other hand… I do believe I am ENTIRELY at her mercy.    Will FLINCHED at the thought, knowing FULL well that Elizabeth was capable of being quite WICKED when she wanted. Though he suspected she would find more AMUSEMENT in there attempted endeavor than anything ELSE, he also realized that both he and Jack could be SUBJECT to a series of strategic PRANKS that would leave the both of them quite REGRETFUL

Do you plan to HIDE it until the wedding day, then? Sneaking it into the FESTIVITIES might be a little HARDER than you’ve bargained for.

“ You are most kind, Sir. I am certain I would be glad
of a little company once I am settled; I have no relations
or acquaintances so far from home. ”

image

“ It’s the least I can do, considering your lack of knowledge on this
place. And yet you still chose to travel so far.        Not many would
          have that sort of bravery.

“ Indeed, from what I have seen so far, Port Royal
quite puts Longbourn to shame! I don’t believe I
have ever seen waters so clear, save in wells, and
well water cannot compete for the deep hues of
           the sea! ”

image

“ It’s certainly a sight to behold. While Port Royal isn’t
overwhelmingly large, I’d be more than willing to show
you around if you’d like the company.      Otherwise, the
least I can do is help you take your trunks to the nearest
          inn. ”

Clara’s intention wasn’t to be NOSY of course, but it
was hard not to want to get up close – it was the only
way to get a good look at the blacksmith’s work after all.
She’s always been fascinated by – well, all kinds of work
really – it wasn’t exactly ‘ladylike’ so she has to be more
subtle. Like choosing to pick up her items instead of having
them hand delivered. She takes a step back when the man
speaks, hands clasped around each other behind her back
as she looks up at him and shakes her head.

“O-oh, bored? No! Of course not,” she manages a smile,
“Who could tire of watching this? You really are quite
skilled, Mr. Turner.”

The shake of her head is expected, but still a tad bit startling. He’d come
to find that his expectations of others in Port Royal were never quite right.
It wasn’t something he complained about, just something that intrigued
him. One glace at the woman’s hands told him everything he needed to
know – even in the dim light of the smithy, he could see that they were
smooth, lacking a hint of a blister or a callous. It was likely that she hadn’t
worked a hard day in her life, and that in itself could be considered answer
enough as to her interest. His gaze returned to item he was crafting, the
heat of the bright metal familiar and welcome. Her response brought a
polite smile to his lips, and his shoulder lifted in feigned nonchalance. In
truth, having his work appreciated was rather important to the young
     blacksmith.

“..Thank you. ” He responded, a healthy note of hesitance
hidden in his tone. It wouldn’t be the first time the compliment
wound up being backhanded, thanking John instead of him.
“ It isn’t often that others find interest in this line of work.”

“ I suppose I’m rather undecided on what to do with myself
in terms of career. My family are particularly lucrative jewelers
& businessmen, have been for a couple of hundred years.
But I’m unsure if it is for me though tis expected since I’m the
eldest. I prefer to wander, wander & write.

“ If there’s anything I’ve learned, it’s that one should follow their
own passions. If writing is yours, then writing should be your
path. What is it you write? Fiction, poetry?”

A crease developed in Will’s brow at the sound of skirts rustling through
the smithy, a contrast of noise and  CLASS. He found it threw him off
balance, having the young woman peering over his shoulder in curiosity
instead of choosing to have her item
( delivered ). Lips settling into a
slight pout, Will glanced up from his work again, gaze set on her for a
moment before his lips parted.

“ Are you not bored of this yet? Or tired of the heat
             at all? ”

The sound of metal meeting metal was one that wasn’t met with much of anything
other than annoyance.   Will Turner had gotten used to that,    to the scathing looks
that were tossed his way when his hammer kissed a scalding blade too loudly and
disturbed those walking nearby.    More often than not,      the screeching of a child,
startled by his work, was what earned such a look of disdain. In truth, Will knew he
should have felt guiltier, but each time it occurred, he had to fight harder and harder
to hide the smile that threatened to burst from his lips.  But the owner of the smithy
had ruined his fun for the day,    closing the door with only a warning glance at Will
that told him to leave it shut. Sweat dotted his brow as he continued working on the
dagger that had been entrusted to him, and as he began to pray for a quick breeze
to run through the smithy,    a gust of air came in through the door that opened and
closed so quickly Will thought he might have blinked.    Glancing up curiously, he
caught sight of a lankier man,  a  mop  of blonde  hair atop his head and blue eyes
shining brightly even in the dim light of the smithy. Brows furrowing, Will lowered
his hammer slowly, tilting his head to the side.

“ Oi. I don’t suppose you have an order for us,
             do you? ”

“ Of course there is indeed happiness to be found in stability.
& sadly many are not afforded such a thing. This is a hard time we
live in that sees only those who are very wealthy to benefit. Hopefully
the future will bring better things, but tis not a thing that will happen
overnight unfortunately. “

“ I suppose until then the rest  of  us  must  continue
to succeed with what we can.  So let me thank you
for bringing me your good business.       What is it
            you do, then?”

“ I would not claim he is too attached to it persay…
tis an item that has been passed down to me & it just
happens to be worth a lot of money. My uncles love affair
with money doesn’t look set to end anytime soon either.
Tis a subject we differ on greatly.

“ Ah, I understand. I’m afraid he’s not the only one
who finds happiness in lined pockets. I can’t say
I blame him entirely, for it sometimes provides
comfort in the form of stability, but only to an
extent. I’m glad not everyone feels the same. ”

“ I’m not sure fight is the best word for it, but
did have– hesitations towards venturing so
far from home all on my own, and I’m not so
certain I earned it at all! My mother is a most
           insistent
woman! ”

image

“ You’ve come all this way alone? I can
understand your trepidation  a bit more upon
hearing that, not many would have done such
          a thing. However, I don’t believe you’ll regret it.
This place will never be more stunning than it is
the first time you lay eyes on it. Or so I would
believe. I do hope you’re prepared for the heat,
it can take some time to grow used to. ”
