He listens intently, mind already running through all possible meanings of the words she’d just spoken to him. How damaged must one person be to no longer be wary of the harm another could cause? How much pain and suffering went into that sort of comment, dismissive out of necessity. He could almost picture the fence that stood proud around the woman, keeping anyone from coming too close to her. The image pulled his brows together, the expression on his face morphing into one of concern.
“ You speak as though damage, and the sadness that comes with it, is all you’ve ever known.”
Will absentmindedly ran a hand across his chest, fingers skimming the scar that covered the area that had once held his heart. Now there was nothing beneath the flesh but a hollow ribcage that served only to hold him upright, as it no longer had something to protect. At times it felt more like damnation than a second chance, and this was one of those moments. His words were sharp in the still of night, slicing through the air like the swords he so often carried.
Ragged edges of torn flesh were victim to the harsh wind that blew over the pair on the beach, sending sand flying into the cut. It He cringed at the feeling of the bandages being removed, ripples of pain reminding him of how just how deep the cut truly was despite efforts to distract himself. The few moments it took for Daunt to wrap the wound properly seemed excruciatingly long, and Will exhaled a sigh of relief when her fingers finally stopped moving over the wound.
“ Thank you – it actually feels a bit better already. ” A dry laugh escaped him at her comment, though it was cut short by the jostling of his arm. “ Are you ever going to stop insisting that we all go back to the life we knew before this?”
“…Thank you for being so considerate. I have seen swords do a fair bit of damage myself. Like you, I too have cut myself once or twice.” She smiled and laid the sword down before turning to look at him. “You’re a blacksmith, correct? Been using swords as long as you have made them?”
“ I’d just rather not have to clean up any severed appendages, as you’d surely miss them.”
He responded, a more teasing lilt to his voice. Out of habit, Will found himself leaning over to take hold o f the sword that had been laid on the table, properly sliding it into its sheath before returning it to where it had been placed. He’d learned it was far better to be safe than sorry.
“ Ah, yes, yes I am, and I have. I suppose when one specializes in something, they make it a point to be well versed in every aspect of it, at least in my case.”
“Well, yes. It is a sword. Swords are supposed to be sharp.”
“It would not be much use in a fight if it were dull.”
“ Well, yes, they would be rather useless if that were the case. I was merely reminding you… Not many seem to be aware of how sharp they can be, and I’ve seen many a finger lost due to that. I’ve narrowly avoided severing a few myself. ”
Will grimaced, a rough laugh escaping his lips as he tried not to move. The wound at his shoulder had proved to be a rather treacherous thing, laid open quite deep. In the baking HEAT , it was getting increasingly difficult to bear. The ocean sparkled tantalizingly, in clear view of where he sat on the beach. But even in his pained state, Will knew that coolness of the water would be rapidly overshadowed by the SALT of the sea. Even the thought of it was enough to make him pale considerably. Turning towards the woman, Will tried for a tight smile, though it came out as something more comical.

With no family or title to speak of, William Turner has made his life in Port Royal by working hard and keeping his head down. Societal expectations are quite high in this small town, and as a result, Will attempts to abide by them around those of high status as he knows reputation is everything. However, he does find it in himself to let loose with the friends he’s made around the town, those whom he trusts.

Will’s life is completely disrupted by the arrival of pirates in Port Royal, and turned on it’s head when they leave with Elizabeth Swann as their captive. Unable to wait for the navy to locate the woman he loves, Will enlists the help of Captain Jack Sparrow to find the Black Pearl. Unaware of what he’s walking into, Will eventually learns that his father was a pirate and that he willingly left his family for piracy. Unsure of how to handle the new information that his father was a pirate, Will squashes down any current hatred in exchange for finding Elizabeth. Nevermind that it requires acts of piracy as well, Will follows after Captain Jack Sparrow and learns a bit more about himself than he would’ve liked.
A PIRATES LIFE FOR ME ( dmc )
Will’s determination to remain what he considers a good man is put to the test when Lord Beckett demands he find Jack Sparrow’s compass in exchange for his and Elizabeth’s freedom. With no choice but to delve back into the world of piracy, Will faces obstacles in the forms of navigating the seas, encountering cannibals, and going up against Davy Jones himself. During his run in with Jones, Will finds his father aboard the Flying Dutchman, and promises to save his soul no matter the cost.

After Jack’s death, Will believes that any chance to save his father is lost along with his friend. However, Tia Dalma relays that there is a way to save both Jack and the Pearl, leading Will to do what must be done to bring the man back. Embracing what it means to be a pirate, Will begins placing his interests and goals above those of his crew. His actions and those of his fiance cause a large gap between the pair, one that isn’t explained until Jack is saved. Even so, the damage seems to be irreparable.

During the fight between The Brethren Court and the East India Trading Company, Will Turner lost his life at the hands of Davy Jones. With the help of Jack Sparrow, Will was able to stab the heart of Jones, and became the new Captain of the Flying Dutchman. Now, it is his responsibility to ferry the souls of the dead from this world to the next, a task he takes quite seriously. Though he and Elizabeth were married during the battle they knew might have ended their lives, Will could never ask Elizabeth to wait for him during the ten years it would take him to return to her. After their one day together, Will told Elizabeth to find her freedom, and in doing so also freed himself.

When all hope seemed lost, Bootstrap Bill found a way to break through the Dutchman’s hold on him and stab the heart of Davy Jones. Narrowly saving Will’s life and helping to end what might have been a full blown battle, Bootstrap became the rightful Captain of the Flying Dutchman. This left Will truly free in a way he hadn’t been before, and now the world is his for the taking.

Despite Will’s intentions of ferrying souls and remaining a good man, the harsh realities of being surrounded by death eventually wormed their way into his heart. Cruel and unforgiving, William Turner has sacrificed his crew for a new one, eliminating his father in the process.

After the death of both of his parents, Will Turner was placed into foster care. Despite the usual struggles that came with living in the system, Will managed to find work doing small jobs around London. Working as a handyman hasn’t left him rolling in money, but he’s able to afford a small apartment on the outskirts of the city. It serves him well, and he’s rather prideful of having something to call his own.

After Captain Jack Sparrow was killed by Davy Jones’ kraken, Will and a few others embark on a journey to bring said Captain back. Though successful, returning to the land of the living proves to be something of a challenge. During this process, Will winds up losing his hold on the ship he’s on as she’s pulled through to the world she belongs in. For all Will knows, one moment he was aboard the Black Pearl, and the next, he’s sputtering by a river that cut through a landscape unlike any he’s seen before. One thing’s for certain – he certainly isn’t home anymore.

Based off of this poem, hiding within a single man is the soul of a dragon reborn, stuffed into a smaller frame and asked to survive.
